Being a single mother was never in my plans
But it has been the most vital aspect of my life. I truly feel that becoming a mother was one of the best things that happened to me to date.
Question: You may be wondering how I got started in all this.
After a near-death experience, I was forced to relocate and rebuild my family’s life. It was during that time that I was aligned with a mentor that helped me understand the importance of valuing myself and my time and the significance of setting higher standards for my family than what I had come to settle for. I also discovered along the way that I am passionate about a multitude of seemingly unconnected things: eating healthier, health, fitness, entrepreneurship, spirituality, and the most shocking of them all even for me is animals. If you knew me before, you know that I was terrified of all animals, especially dogs.
Not to sound morbid, but we all have an expiration date and no one knows if that expiration date is days, months, or years from the date of birth. I lost my nephew in 2016 when he was only eight months old. The last time I saw him alive was just a few weeks prior at my baby’s first birthday. This made me realize that one thing is guaranteed for each of us: we’re all headed to the same destination.

Even though that destination has been predetermined for all of us, many of us still waste our most valuable asset—time. We make excuses for why we can’t improve our circumstances. We end up going through life settling for mediocre.
That’s exactly where I was in 2017, ready to settle for a life with a man based on a foundation of broken promises. I have always considered myself a strong woman, but this man broke me down over time. He was controlling, jealous, paranoid, and worst of all abusive. While he never abused my children, he was violent with me on more than one occasion. Despite that, I stayed with him. Despite that, I was still ready to settle. I was settling for this life because I didn’t realize that I was worth more than that.
After that last time of him abusing me, I made the conscious decision to take charge of my life knowing that my sons and I deserved more. Through online training programs, I’ve learned how to take back control of my life by pursuing financial freedom and teaching my children along the way.
