Happy Additional (THANKS)giving Day 🦃🍁 From My Family To Yours

MOMMY TALKS PODCAST Episode 25
  • MOMMY TALKS PODCAST

Thanksgiving is currently tied with Christmas for the most family-oriented holiday. An article written in 2017, indicates that there are approximately 46.9 million people that travel during these two holidays alone. Can you imagine the money that is being spent for them to do so as well as the money that the ones that aren't traveling typically will spend just to partake in the festivities.

Some of them will even be spending money that they may not even have because according to society this is the "American Way," which is to buy things on credit and then owe people money. Which is exactly why I decided to discontinue celebrating any of the holidays.

But in addition to spending the unnecessary money, I honestly feel that we have forgotten the true meaning of thanksgiving.

Sure, We Gather With Family & Friends

Sure, we gather with our family and friends in our newest gear on that fourth Thursday of November every year to go around the table or around the room to say what we are thankful for.

For most of us, this is the only day out of the entire year we even acknowledge what we are thankful for because we tend to spend the majority of our time the other days in the year focusing on the things that we feel are a nuisance to where we are currently in life.

Shoot just this year alone, I had plans to move into a new apartment so that I could save money to prepare for buying my family a house, but there have been unexpected things that have since I made the move, which I have spent a lot of time focusing on like:

I've discovered that the secret to a better life is gratitude.

So, while there has been a lot going on in my life this year alone there is still so much that I have to be grateful for like:

No matter where we may be currently in our lives, how we choose to see it determines how our lives will be.

And I am pretty sure if we were to take a moment to reflect on our lives each and every day, that we could find at least three things that we could be thankful for in each additional day that we are given here on earth.

So, why not choose to do so instead of continuing to reflect on these things only 1 day out of the 365 we are given each year?

Conclusion

Something else, I've discovered along my journey is that not only do the decisions that I make or choose not to make today affect my family's lives, but also that the holidays are traditions that someone else decided upon as the right time for me to show love and appreciation to my loved ones and I have allowed them to do so since it's the only time that I do so, but why?

The answer is simple, it's because that's what I was conditioned to do as were you, but why have we?

Why have we allowed them to say that it was okay to only show our mothers that they are appreciated one day out of the year?

Why have we allowed them to say that it was okay to only show our fathers that they are appreciated one day out of the year?

Why have we allowed them to say that it is okay to give credit for our hardwork to someone?

I am aware that change is scary or being considered different is scary but just reflect for a moment on how your family's lives are being affected today because of what someone else decided for you all years ago.

My goal is to spend as much time offline as humanly possible. I have two little guys that demand my attention outside of work and am aware that you have little ones that are just as demanding as mine are.
